LAURINBURG — Two registered sex offenders were arrested last week after they were found to have visited school property, according to Laurinburg police.

Officers had received reports that Eric Ellison Bailey, 33, of 20300 McIntosh Road in Laurinburg, had visited Scotland High School, according to Assistant Police Chief Cliff Sessoms, and a review of his monitoring device confirmed that he was on the school’s property on May 4 at 8:53 a.m.

Bailey was arrested Friday and charged with being on the school’s property and with violating the terms of his probation, and was assigned a $10,000 unsecured bond, meaning he was not jailed.

Also arrested on Friday was Clyde McPhatter, 55, of 213 Everette St., Apt. C, after police found that he had on several occasions visited North Laurinburg Elementary School to pick up a male student, Sessoms said. The boy’s guardian had listed McPhatter under the name Clyde Patterson as someone authorized to pick him up from school, according to Sessoms.

McPhatter, a felon, was also found to be in possession of a firearm. He was charged with being on school grounds and for carrying the weapon, and placed in the Scotland County jail under a $20,000 secured bond.

According to state records, Bailey was convicted of a sex crime in February of this year. McPhatter was ordered to register as a sex offender in 2009, records show.
