HOFFMAN — Firefighters and medics have scheduled an Aug. 9 fundraiser for a volunteer firefighter recovering from a brain tumor.

Andy Sampson is a registered nurse in the operating room at Scotland Memorial Hospital, a paramedic and a volunteer firefighter. He woke up one morning with what he thought was a migraine and learned a brain tumor the size of a baseball was causing the intense pain.

After a successful surgery to remove the tumor, he was on a ventilator for five days and spent three weeks in rehab.

A fundraiser for Sampson will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Hoffman Fire Department and Rescue Squad’s Marston station at 2401 N. U.S. 1 in the Marston community. Proceeds will help Samson and his family with medical and living expenses while he is out of work.

Barbecue and chicken plates will be available for $7 each.

For any questions or donations, contact Jeanette at 910-894-3408 or Denise at 910-894-2020. The event is also listed on Facebook on the “Fundraiser for Andy Sampson” page.
