ROCKINGHAM — Sheriff’s deputies have charged two men with stealing copper wires from a vacant Richmond County home.

Deputies on Tuesday stopped 20-year-old William Dalton Williams of Calvert Street and 22-year-old Alex Wade Kirk of Forest Drive in a car near the site of the copper theft, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Copper wiring had been stripped from a house on Forest Drive outside Rockingham, deputies said.

Williams and Kirk were each charged with misdemeanor larceny and causing injury to real property. Deputies also served Kirk with an arrest warrant accusing him of a probation violation.

Court records show Kirk has pending charges of misdemeanor assault on a female and misdemeanor disorderly conduct in Richmond County.

Kirk was booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $2,000 secured bond. Williams was released on a written promise to appear in court.
