ROCKINGHAM — A man and woman are accused of setting fire to a house twice in the same day, according to Richmond County sheriff’s deputies.
Deputies rushed to a Hickory Street home on Saturday to help the East Rockingham Fire Department investigate what firefighters determined was a suspicious blaze.
Deputies say Sally Denise Patterson, 55, and James Lewis Legrand, 58, had been arguing at the home they were renting before the fire began.
Within two hours, deputies say Patterson and Legrand returned to the home to get some of their belongings when a second fire started.
Following an investigation, deputies arrested the pair later that day and charged them both with second-degree arson.
Patterson also was arrested on an outstanding warrant for a forgery charge in an unrelated case, according to deputies.
Patterson was jailed under a $7,000 secured bond, while Legrand was held under a $5,000 secured bond.
Court records show Patterson also faces two counts of misdemeanor larceny. Legrand is also facing a charge of misdemeanor larceny.
