ROCKINGHAM — Sheriff’s deputies say a woman blasted two people with pepper spray at a Richmond County convenience store on Thursday.

Jennifer Lowery Espina, 37, of 2587 Wayne White Road, Lot 53, near the Guilford County town of Pleasant Garden, is accused of attacking Daniel Conklin and Sharon Black with pepper spray at Alco Store No. 15, 804 U.S. 220 N. outside Rockingham, according to arrest warrants.

Charging documents state that Espina pulled away from Richmond County deputies and refused to follow instructions when they arrived at the store Thursday to take her into custody. Deputies allegedly found nine Xanax pills on Espina when they arrested her.

Espina is charged with two counts of misdemeanor simple assault and one count each of misdemeanor simple possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance and misdemeanor resisting a public officer.

Deputies booked Espina into the Richmond County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond. Conditions of her release include staying off the Alco convenience store property and having no contact with either complaining witness, according to court records.
