ROCKINGHAM — The Humane Society of Richmond County is working to find more unwanted anmials a “furever” home.
The tax-exempt nonprofit group is seeking volunteers to assist with adopt-a-thons planned the second Saturday of each month at Tractor Supply Co. in Wadesboro and to help out during the week. The Humane Society recently hired a part-time employee to handle rescues, fosters and adoptions, board member Jackie Huggins said.
The group’s mission is to work with the Richmond County Animal Shelter as it cares for stray, abandoned, seized, surrendered or unwanted dogs, cats and other animals.
The Humane Society works to find reputable rescues, foster homes and adoptions for shelter animals, educates the public on animal welfare and related issues and supports spay and neuter programs to reduce the number of unwanted animals that have to be euthanized.
Animal lovers at the Humane Society are planning a Bark and Bowl fundraiser in August. Entry fee will be $10 per person and five-person teams will participate. The group is seeking corporate sponsorships and plans to announce more information as the event nears.
The society is also planning a cornhole tournament for September.
Huggins encourages people to visit the Richmond County Animal Shelter at 529 U.S. 74 West, Rockingham. The shelter is open from noon to 4 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and is closed on Wednesdays and Sundays.
