WADESBORO — A Hamlet man wanted in connection with a shooting near the Pee Dee River last week has been caught.

Anson County Sheriff Tommy Allen said deputies arrested 35-year-old Michael Kevin Allen without incident shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Allen was found at a home on Usrey Road in a rural area southeast of Lilesville, the sheriff said.

Deputies say Allen shot and assaulted William David Scott, 54, of Rockingham at a boat landing on the Anson County side of the river last Thursday.

Witnesses told deputies that Allen accused Scott of killing his mother in a car crash several years ago.

A press release issued by the sheriff Monday said Allen was charged with assault by pointing a gun, assault with a deadly weapon, assault inflicting serious injury and possession of a handgun by convicted felon. However, the charge of assault inflicting serious injury is not listed on the jail’s website.

Anson County Jail records show Allen was admitted at 4:15 p.m. under a $25,000 secured bond.
