WADESBORO — Anson County sheriff’s deputies are still looking for a Richmond County man accused of shooting and beating another man near the Pee Dee River last week.
Michael Kevin Allen, 35, of Hamlet, is wanted on charges of shooting William David Scott, 54, of Rockingham, during an altercation Thursday evening on the Anson County side of the river.
Deputies say Scott was shot in the foot and “badly beaten about the head.” Scott was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte and released Friday morning.
Witnesses told deputies Allen accused Scott of killing his mother in a car wreck several years ago, according to a sheriff’s office report.
Both Allen and Scott have extensive criminal records.
Warrants have been issued charging Allen with assault by pointing a gun, assault with a deadly weapon, assault inflicting serious injury and possession of a handgun by convicted felon.
Anson County Sheriff Tommy Allen said deputies looked for the suspect Friday afternoon, but were unable to find him at “any of his usual hangouts.” However, deputies think he may still be in the Hamlet area.
“Many of our calls around this area are dealing with people from across the river,” the sheriff said. “Alcohol (generally) is a contributing factor to their problems but overall we really don’t have too many calls there.”
He said deputies and state wildlife officers will be patrolling the areas “as we can.”
The sheriff asks anyone who knows Allen’s whereabouts to call his office at 704-694-4188 or the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at 910-895-3232.
