ROCKINGHAM — A wreck involving two cars in downtown Rockingham left one woman shaken up and another woman in the hospital.

A 2013 Kia Soul traveling in the direction of the courthouse collided with a Volvo at the intersection of East Washington and North Hancock streets. The crash happened around 5;15 p.m. Tuesday.

Stephanie Thornsbury was driving the Kia. Amy Parker was driving the Volvo 580.

Rockingham police said both drivers claimed to have a green light. Officers were unable to determine fault in the wreck due to conflicting witness statements and neither driver was cited.

Amber Marcengill, the owner of Rocking Trends Consignment Boutique on the corner of East Washington and Hancock streets, was standing outside her store talking to customers when the wreck occurred.

“I jumped in the Volvo and pulled the emergency brake to stop the car from rolling,” Marcengill said.

Thornsberry was looked at by FirstHealth EMT first responders and was allowed to leave. Parker, however, was loaded into an ambulance and taken to FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital.
