NORMAN — Charlie “C.J.” Little served for four years in the U.S. Army and has been married to his wife Ann Lowery Little for 36 years. Little was employed at Hamlet Middle School for the last seven and a half years but fell ill in November.

His wife took him to the hospital and doctors subsequently sent him home. The next day, he still wasn’t felling well and drove up to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. It was here that he found out he had a tumor on his brain.

“On Thanksgiving Day they told him he had Stage IV brain cancer, and there was nothing they could do,” said family friend Teresa Person.

Person said the Church of God of Prophecy in Norman wanted to do something special for him and will have the program at 5 p.m. at the church, which is located at 243 Capel Mill Road in Norman. Little and his wife are members of the House of Prayer Church of God of Prophecy in Ellerbe.

Once Little found out he had cancer, he made the trek to Chapel Hill where doctors proceeded to tell him the prognosis no one wants to hear — that he had only months to live.

“The doctor said, ‘We’re not even gonna put him in ICU,’” said Person. “They said they were gonna put him a room for the family to say goodbye.”

After suffering through seizure after seizure, Little slowly regained his memory. Doctors allowed him to come home. Fast forward to February and Little is already walking with a walker. Unfortunately, he doesn’t remember visiting the hospitals and also doesn’t understand why so many people want to help him out.

Included in that group of people are the members of the Church of God of Prophecy, and on Saturday there will be singing and the church will be accepting donations, as well as household items so Little’s family members don’t have to spend their own money on those goods.

Person said it’s the least the church can do to assist with traveling and other medical expenses to help the Little family get through the next few months.

Anyone not able to make the event but wanting to participate can send donations to Charlie Little c/o The Church of God of Prophecy in Norman, P.O. Box 12, Norman, NC 28367.
