HAMLET — A 21-year-old on probation for a March 11 felony conviction is back in jail, accused of breaking into several buildings on the same day.

Police say Stephon Jewlton Easterling, of High Street in Hamlet, broke into a storage building and workshop at nearby addresses, as well as a 2000 Chevy Impala — all owned by the same man — on March 31.

According to arrest warrants, Easterling stole two wrenches from one building, a pair of wood-handled hedge clippers from another and a cellphone from the car.

Easterling is also accused of breaking into a building on High Street that day.

He was arrested April 5 and charged with three felony counts of breaking and entering, two felony counts of larceny after breaking and entering, one felony count of breaking and or entering a motor vehicle and a count of misdemeanor larceny.

A magistrate’s order states Easterling was in possession of a glass pipe and Brillo pad at the time of his arrest and lists a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to police, Easterling told him that Deana Brock was with him during the High Street break-in.

They were both charged with a felony count of conspiring to break and enter a building with the intent to commit felony larceny on April 7, and Brock, 36, was also charged with a felony count of breaking and entering.

She was booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond and released the same day. Easterling is still in jail under a $30,000 secured bond. They are both scheduled to appear in court April 21.

Online court records show Brock has another pending felony breaking and entering charge under the name Deana Poplin.

Easterling was convicted last month of obtaining property by false pretenses and possession of a controlled substance and given an 18-month suspended sentence, according to records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction.

He previously served probation when his sentence was suspended on a 2012 conviction on misdemeanor breaking and entering and larceny charges.

Brock served one month behind bars in 2010 when she was convicted on a paraphernalia charge and was sentenced to probation in 2007 after being convicted of driving with a revoked license in Anson County, records show.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
