ROCKINGHAM — Police say they are looking for a driver involved in a hit-and-run that sent a teenager in the hospital.

Chief Billy Kelly said officers were called to the scene just after midnight Tuesday morning where a 13-year-old girl was struck by a car on South Long Drive.

The girl was crossing the road with other people near Cauthen Drive and Scaleybark Road when a vehicle heading toward Mill Road hit her and kept going, Kelly said.

She was taken to FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital and later airlifted to another where she was listed in stable but serious condition late Tuesday afternoon.

Kelly said he was unsure what her injuries are because police have not yet had an opportunity to speak with the victim.

Detectives have spoken to several witnesses and are still investigating the case.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Rockingham Police Department at 910-895-2468 and ask for Detective Brigman or call Richmond County Crime Stoppers at 910-997-5454.
