Picking up the tab

Contributed photo Carlton Hawkins of American Legion Post 147 in Rockingham is pictured with soda can tabs he collected recently to send to the Ronald McDonald House of Durham. Hawkins sends a load roughly this size to the charity three times each year. The Ronald McDonald House says the funds it generates from recycling these “aluminum gems” offset its expenses. Tabs can be dropped off at the Ronald McDonald House or at any American Legion post.
