ROCKINGHAM — Two people involved in a July 25 fight outside Walmart have been formally charged.

According to warrants, 29-year-old Candi Renee Croom and 35-year-old Reginald Jacobs were served by a Richmond County sheriff’s deputy July 29.

Croom, listed on warrants as “Candi Coons,” is accused of hitting 43-year-old Gary Quick Jr. in the face and body with a closed fist and hitting 63-year-old Virginia Merle Gainey in the chest. The warrant also states Crooms yelled to both Gainey and Quick: “I’m going to beat your (expletive) bitch ass.”

Jacobs, named on a warrant as “Reggie Coons,” is also accused of hitting Quick in the face and body with a closed fist.

Another woman, 65-year-old Carol Johnson of Hamlet, was injured when she was knocked down during the scuffle but has not yet pressed charges.

A police report lists Quick, Johnson, Croom and Jacobs all as victims. It also lists Quick, Croom, Jacobs and Gainey as suspects.

Croom was charged with two counts of assault and battery and one count of communicating threats — all misdemeanors. Jacobs was also charged with assault and battery.

Croom was booked into the Richmond County Jail on a $1,000 secured bond at 9:45 a.m. July 29 and released on bail just more than an hour later. She was also ordered not to have any contact with Gainey or Quick.

Jacobs was jailed under a $500 secured bond, released later that afternoon and ordered not to have any contact with Quick.

They are both scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 14.

Jacobs has prior convictions in three nearby counties, according to the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction.

In 2002, he was found guilty in Robeson County on felony breaking and entering and larceny charges. Seven years later, he was convicted on charges of second-degree burglary and larceny after breaking and entering in Scotland County.

Records show Jacobs was also convicted in Cumberland County of driving while impaired in 2009 and in Scotland County in 2013.

Croom has no prior convictions in North Carolina.
