Boy Scouts of America sends mixed message
To the editor:
The article emblazoned on The Daily Journal’s New Years Day edition, “Business as usual as Boy Scouts open to gay youth” (Jan. 1, 2014) opened up another volley in the cultural wars.
Apparently, Todd Walter, Greg Shelley, Tom McInnis, Wiley Mabe, Tommy Deese, Joe Everett and LaVerne Schultz seem to have either conveniently or dare I say arrogantly discarded the clear Biblical teaching on homosexuality. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to know that gay troop leaders will be the next wave of acceptable leadership to our male youth.
It’s amusing how these leaders dance and skirt around this moral issue. Mr. Shelley implores us that “it’s all about the kids,” but what truths are you teaching the kids?
Mr. Walters states “the debate is between the parent and the child, not child and Boy Scout leader.”
What mixed message is this sending? Yes, Mr. Walter’s social issues do play a part in the Boy Scouts and in the lives of all Americans.
The shifting sands of public opinion can never deter the timeless truths of scripture. Before you demonic Christians, who hold a Christ-centered perspective, just know sinners are still in the age of Grace. Repentance of sin and sinful attitudes are never out of date.
No need to panic, Jesus is still in charge.
