A campus-wide power outage has canceled registration for classes at Richmond Community College until Monday. Power was restored in the early afternoon by Duke Energy technicians.

Registration was supposed to take place from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today for spring semester classes, but the lack of power halted the functions of the school for registration.

Registration will now be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m on Monday at RCC’s main campus.

Andy Cagle, director of marketing and communications, said that there were still up to 400 students that still need to register for classes this spring semester.

With registration now on Monday, classes at the college will not start until Tuesday and will then follow the normal schedule.

The cause of the power outage was due to a tree that had fallen on a line on the Cole Auditorium side of the campus, Cagle said.

“It’s one of those things you can’t really plan for,” Cagle said.
