The Richmond County Chamber of Commerce, along with Richmond County Economic Development, will hold the 16th annual Business & Industry Appreciation event on Thursday, Sept. 25, at Rockingham Speedway, 2152 Hwy U.S. 1, Rockingham.

For more information or to purchase tickets contact the Chamber at 910-895-9058 or info@richmondcountychamber.com. Tickets are $20 per person. Due to demand, tickets are not available after Sept. 21. Tickets will not be sold at the gate.

The event is open to the public and the “dress code” for the event is casual. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and a dinner will follow.

This event is sponsored by Duke Energy, City of Rockingham, Piedmont Natural Gas, Discovery Place KIDS-Rockingham, Richmond Community College, Mabry’s Drug & Home Care, Pee Dee Electric Member Corporation, Rockingham Speedway, Covington Eye Clinic, Richmond County government, R.A. Jeffrey’s-Budweiser, Perdue and the City of Hamlet.

The guest speaker at the event will be Caren Anders, senior vice president and chief transmission officer for Duke Energy.

She is responsible for planning, engineering and asset management, construction and maintenance, operations, project management, vegetation management and compliance of the transmission system. This includes more than 30,000 miles of transmission lines and more than 5,000 substations in six states.

Anders assumed her current position in 2012, following the merger between Duke Energy and Progress Energy. She joined Progress Energy in March 2007 and brings 30 years of experience to the position, including engineering, managerial and leadership roles. Prior to her employment with Progress Energy, she served in numerous leadership roles at Exelon Corporation in both the generation and transmission businesses.

Anders earned her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania and received her MBA from Drexel University in Philadelphia. She is also a graduate of the Columbia University Senior Executive Program, Leadership Philadelphia and Leadership North Carolina. She is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Pennsylvania and a Fellow of ASME International.

Anders serves on the board of directors of the United Way of the Greater Triangle, the advisory board of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at N.C. State University, and the industry advisory board of ASME International. She also serves on the board of SERC Reliability Corporation and is a member of the North American Transmission Forum.

Anders was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa. She and her husband, David, have two children.
