On Nov. 8 Richmond County Hospice plans to have its third annual Salute to Veterans event at the facility as a gesture to show appreciation.

“Veterans in our community have given so much for us and this is a small way to show them how much we appreciate them,” said Jessica Mims, co-chair of the veterans committee.

In order to have the event, there will be a fundraiser on Sept. 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. held at Smithfield’s Chicken ‘n Bar-B-Q in Rockingham, located at 718 U.S. 74 Business. Twenty percent of the proceeds that are made during those hours will go towards the Salute the Veterans event.

“We hope that people will take advantage of the opportunity to support our area veterans and give them the recognition that they deserve,” said Mims.

Richmond County Hospice had a great turnout last year and is hopeful to have yet another very successful event this year.

“Last year was the largest event that we’ve had so far and we had nearly 200 people attending,” said Mims. “We had the Golden Knights Parachute Team, the 82nd Airborne Military Band, a special guest speaker and a wonderful meal,”

she said.

“We got a lot of good feedback from veterans about the event,” said Lisa O’Neal, co-chair of the veterans committee.

“We have a similar line-up scheduled for this year so folks should expect a lot of the same festivities,” Mims said.

This event is for everyone in the community and those that would like to attend are asked to pre-register.
