HAMLET — For unique gift ideas, a chance to avoid crowds and to meet some of your neighbors, look no further than the Richmond County Biz Bash.
Richmond County Chamber of Commerce has been trying to boost local business just in time for the holidays.
Local businesses have taken a hit with the income of large chain businesses in Richmond County.
“People are closing their doors everyday,” said Keri Humann, membership director at the Richmond County Chamber of Commerce.
That is where the idea for the Biz Bash came. It is a shopping event geared specifically to help local businesses in Richmond County that make the community a special place. It will be held on every Tuesday and Thursday, minus Thanksgiving, until Dec. 19.
“We consider it to be a cash mob for local businesses,” Humann said. “It is our way of encouraging people to spend their money to help keep the doors open.”
The Bash started on Oct. 29 with Cafe on Main in Hamlet. The event so far has helped Sunbelt Distribution Inc. in Rockingham, Rotary in Rockingham, Maness Tire Pros in Rockingham, Strikers Bowling Center/Godfather’s Pizza in Rockingham, Dreamworx Day Spa in Rockingham, and Todd’s Computers in Rockingham.
“We’ve had owners say that the boost has helped bring in some extra money for the holidays,” Humann said.
Usually on the day of the Bash the store in question will put on some special sales for the people that come in to shop.
“I keep everything updated on the chamber’s Facebook page,” Humann said. “So every Tuesday and Thursday from now until Dec. 19 you should see a new shop being featured.”
Today the Bash will be at Discovery Place KIDS in Rockingham. The Bash will then be held at Andy’s Burgers in Rockingham on Nov. 26. Future business to be hit include Hamlet Historic Depot and Museum in Hamlet, Gifts for all Seasons in Rockingham, Marie’s Boutique in Rockingham and Razzle Dazzle Boutique in Hamlet.
A successful Biz Bash will help attract new customers and help these local businesses thrive despite the slow economy. It only takes the will power of dedicated community members.
“Anyone in the community is welcome to participate in the Biz Bash,” Humann said. “Even for the businesses that have already had their bash.”
