HAMLET — Police are seeking the public’s help to find the second suspect in a May 31 beating that sent a man to a Charlotte hospital with serious injuries.
Mortquan Tishown (Tyshawn) Mitchell, 31, of Hamlet, and Shelton Griffin, 35, of Hamlet, are accused of assaulting 33-year-old Charlie Morrison. Police arrested Griffin on June 5 and are still seeking information on Mitchell’s whereabouts.
Hamlet Police Chief Rodney Tucker said he believes Mitchell may be hiding in or near his hometown.
“Just call us and let us know if you see him or know where he is,” Tucker said. “I don’t see him being a danger or anything, but if you see him, just call us. I have reason to believe he is somewhere in Hamlet because he lives here, and no reason to believe he would be anywhere else.”
Morrison was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte and has since been released, Tucker said.
Griffin was charged with assault inflicting serious bodily injury and is in the Richmond County Detention Center on $2,500 bond.
There is a warrant out for Mitchell’s arrest under the same charge. The suspect has a history of criminal convictions record dating back to 1998. Convictions include assault on a female, trespassing, felony breaking and entering, larceny, probation violations and possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.
Tucker asks that anyone with information regarding Mitchell’s whereabouts call 910-582-2551. Tucker said he does not believe Mitchell is a danger to the public.
