Richmond Senior High School Junior ROTC cadet Brandi Aaronson recently received the bronze JROTC medal.

The Daughters of the American Revolution’s Gen. Henry William Harrington chapter presented Aaronson with the medal during a May 15 awards program.

Aaronson is 15 years old and a sophomore at Richmond Senior High. She is the daughter of Stacy Aaronson.

Bronze medal recipients must have demonstrated loyalty and patriotism and earned a record of military and scholastic achievement during their participation in a JROTC program. They’re required to be in the upper 25 percent of their classes in JROTC and in academic subjects.

They also must have shown qualities of dependability and good character, adherence to military discipline, leadership ability and a fundamental and patriotic understanding of the importance of JROTC training, according to DAR.

Aaronson said she loves JROTC and said it has helped her learn self-discipline and develop her leadership potential. Sgt. James, her teacher in the JROTC program, said Aaronson is always there to help and volunteer. In addition, James said, she is always smiling and has developed her leadership skills.

DAR Regent Mary Bowles presented Aaronson with the medal. Aaronson also received a dozen red roses.
