HAMLET — San Diego Chargers linebacker and former Richmond Raider Melvin Ingram will host a free community carnival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Hamlet Memorial Park.
Activities at the inaugural Melvin’s Mission Community Fun Day include carnival games, a gladiator joust, basketball, rock-climbing, a deluxe obstacle course and face-painting, said Ingram’s sister, Monique Ingram. The park also will host a pirate ship and bounce houses.
Ingram also said there would be music, free T-shirts given out, cotton candy and popcorn as well as prizes that will be raffled off. Each guest will receive a ticket upon entering the park, and the ticket numbers will be used to award raffle prizes.
The 2012 NFL first-round draft pick and Hamlet native will be on hand for a meet-and-greet from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday and will be available for pictures during the event. Morasha Photography will be on hand to take snapshots of participants posing with Ingram and taking part in the festivities.
Organizers said Melvin Ingram is funding the event, which is free and open to the public.
