HAMLET — The Richmond County Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for its 2015 Citizen of the Year.

Nominations may be made by an individual, organization, club or other group. Citizen of the Year nominees are not required to be Chamber of Commerce members.

Chamber leaders recognize the Citizen of the Year in December. Former state senator and Rockingham mayor Gene McLaurin earned the accolade in 2014.

Nominations are valid for three years. If a nominee is not selected, their name will automatically be added to the nominations for the following year.

Selection will be based on service to this community above and beyond normal duties. Consideration will be given to contributions made in past years in addition to current activities. A person’s work in business or professional affairs, involvement in service clubs, voluntary service in charitable, educational or recreational activities will all be considered.

The intention is to honor the person or people who, by their actions in 2015 and previous years, have given unselfishly for the betterment of the Richmond County area and/or the its residents.

Those who submit nominations are asked to include all aspects of a candidate’s community activities.

Nomination forms are available at the Chamber of Commerce office, 2 W. Main St., Hamlet, and can be requested by calling 910-895-9056 or emailing [email protected].

Completed forms must be returned by Nov. 30 in order for a candidate to be considered. Letters of recommendation may be included with nomination forms.
