ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours event took to the skies Thursday evening when chamber officials and local business owners and members came together at the Rockingham Airport.

Those in attendance mingled on the tarmac and looked at some of the small “experimental” planes and power parachutes that were on display as well as the North Carolina Forest Service’s bright yellow helicopter that flew in from Sanford.

Barbecue and barbecue chicken was provided and served by Rick’s Catering out of Laurinburg to everyone inside a large airplane hangar. Chamber President Emily Tucker admitted this was a lot different than any other Business After Hours event the chamber had put together.

While everyone ate, Tucker talked about the chamber’s new website, which she said after 20 years finally has a new logo featuring the name and a prominent pine cone. She also discussed the chamber’s inaugural Hoptoberfest event taking place from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Richmond Plaza Shopping Center in Rockingham in partnership with chamber member Tri-City Inc.

Once dinner was over, most still in attendance headed back to the tarmac to watch a couple of the planes fly around the airport and take a gander at Delton Locklear’s colorful power parachute.
