Performing quality work means so much to the Sharpe family they put the idea into the company name.
Jim and Wanda have come back home to Richmond County and brought Pride Plumbing with them.
The Sharpes, originally from East Rockingham, moved away to expand their plumbing business in Montgomery and Stanly counties, but always maintained relationships in Richmond County, which made moving back an easier transition. Jim said Pride Plumbing has officially been back in town for about three years and is looking to add an office off of South Long Drive in Rockingham.
“I started working here in high school,” said Sharpe. “It was my stepfather’s business at the time. We bought it out about 12 years ago.”
Sharpe also said Pride Plumbing, which employs 12 people, turns 50 years old in 2015 and company owners are in the process of planning a year-long celebration to commemorate the milestone. While much of the work is completed during a regular business day, employees respond on an as-needed basis.
“You never know when something’s gonna happen,” said Sharpe. “Sixty percent of our work is residential service and repair.”
Pride Plumbing provides a wide array of services including any plumbing issues, draining water, water heaters, faucets, sinks and commercial properties.
“We do the plumbing on a couple new houses a year,” said Sharpe. “If water runs through it, we do it.”
Pride is a member of the Richmond County Chamber of Commerce and in the past has donated $500 to Red Cross in Montgomery County, and Sharpe said they’d like to do something in Rockingham this year including donating to a shelter in town. Presently, the company is in good hands with Jim and Wanda, and eventually they would like to pass the company down, but Jim and Wanda’s oldest child is only seven-years-old so the Sharpe children can wait a little while longer.
“That is the intent, but it takes a special person,” said Jim. “You have to be able to deal with the public, but passing the business down is a goal.”
Sharpe said Pride Plumbing has new billboards going up all over town including one by the high school, one near Hardee’s and one by Walmart.
“Be on the look-out for them,” Sharpe added.
