Officers with the Rockingham Police Department responded to an apartment complex mid-Friday morning and found a 64-year-old woman dead in her apartment.
A family member told The Daily Journal that authorities do not yet have an idea how long Linda Johnson had been dead in her McArthur Drive apartment before being discovered by a worker from Monarch. Monarch is an agency that provides support to individuals dealing with development and intellectual disabilities, mental illness and substance abuse issues.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. on Thursday at McLendon Funeral Home in Ellerbe.
Meanwhile, family members are scrambling to cover funeral expenses for the unexpected death. Through early Tuesday afternoon, Christina Robinson, of Ellerbe, had received $285 in donations of $1,776 needed through the website www.gofundme.com/84fd1k.
According to the police report, the case continue to be investigated.
