The drivers of two vehicles were killed early Tuesday morning after a head-on collision on State Route 177 near Hamlet.

North Carolina State Trooper Bruce Goodwin said Brandi Danielle Faurot, 18, of Hamlet, was driving a 16-passenger Ford van and Bobby Gayle Hudson, 58, of Bear Creek, was driving an Isuzu six-wheel truck that is used as a septic pump for sanipots at about 4:19 a.m. near Ponderosa Drive.

Goodwin said the two vehicle were traveling in opposite directions and collided head-on in the southbound lane.

State Highway Patrol responded to the scene along with Hamlet Fire and Rescue and Richmond County Emergency Medical Services. Both drivers were transported to FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital in Rockingham.

Goodwin said the cause of the crash is not yet known and that the investigation into the incident is continuing.
