HAMLET — A car ran off the road into a telephone pole, breaking it at its base, on Marlboro Street in Hamlet Monday afternoon.

No injuries were reported, but the damage to the pole forced emergency crews to cut off power to at least three homes in the immediate vicinity of the wreck, according to Lt. Justin Pruitt of the Hamlet Fire Department.

Pruitt said the outages should be repaired by 10 p.m.

Emergency crews were dispatched at 5:17 p.m. The Hamlet Fire Department blocked off the road between the intersections with McDonald Avenue and Rollins Avenue to allow emergency crews to repair the damage to the pole.

The breaks in the pole ruptured “the primary wires and some secondary wires”, Pruitt said.
