CHARLOTTE – Each year, Congressman Robert Pittenger, R-Charlotte, nominates 40 local students for prestigious appointments to the nation’s service academies.

Applications are currently being accepted, with a firm deadline of 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6.

“Each year, dozens of local students compete for the opportunity to commit the next nine years in service to our country. Helping these students realize that dream is one of the best parts of my job,” Pittenger said in a statement. “Because of their commitment, we put extra effort into the service academy process, and generally receive more than our fair share of appointments.”

High school seniors from North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District are encouraged to apply for a nomination. Information packets have been sent to all local high schools, but students must contact Congressman Pittenger’s office directly at 704-362-1060 to request an application and to ensure all steps are completed prior to the deadline.

All qualified applicants who submit their completed packets by Oct. 6 will be scheduled for interviews with Pittenger’s Academy Selection committee. There are 10 nominations to each of the following service academies available exclusively for students in North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District:

• U.S. Military Academy at West Point

• U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis

• U.S. Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs)

•U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point.

For questions or more information, contact Pittenger’s Charlotte office at 704-362-1060.
