Richmond County residents wishing to provide school supplies for children and teachers have several options.

They may:

• help fill goodie bags for teachers new to the county with business or promotional items. Those wishing to participate may contact Katie Rohleder at Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham: [email protected]. Items must be taken to Discovery Place, 233 E. Washington St. Rockingham, by 4 p.m. Friday.

• leave donated supplies near their mailboxes this Saturday, so their carriers can pick them up. The supplies will be distributed to local students.

• “Stuff the Bus” parked at the Rockingham Walmart on U.S. 74 Business from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 25. The bus also will be parked at the Rockingham Senior High School football game that night. Distribution of the supplies will occur later — not on collection days.

• “Fill Backpacks for Kids” during a bicycle and motorcycle ride, 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 2, behind Sports Connection, 38 Main St., Hamlet. Families are welcome and may contribute school supplies for the children of Fairview Elementary in Hamlet.

At 3 p.m., motorcyclists will ride from Sports Connection to Town Creek Indian Mound at Mount Gilead, and back again, as part of the collection effort. Riders are asking for such donations as 24-packs of crayons, notebook paper, highlighters, hand sanitizer and backpacks.
