ROCKINGHAM — Those wanting to seek municipal office this year may file to run between noon Friday, July 7 and noon July 21, at the Richmond County Board of Elections office.

Candidates who change their minds and wish to withdraw must do so by 5 p.m. July 18.

Elections office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The office is at 221 S. Hancock St.

Those seeking absentee ballots must send their requests to Richmond County Board of Elections, P.O. Box 1843, Rockingham, NC 28380.

UP FOR ELECTION

More than a dozen municipal seats, including those held by four mayors, are up for grabs across the county:

• ROCKINGHAM — Mayor Steve Morris ($10 filing fee), and council members Anne M. Edwards, Denise A. Sullivan and Gene Willard.

• HAMLET — Mayor Bill Bayless ($30), and council members Eddie Martin and Jesse McQueen ($10).

• ELLERBE — Mayor Lee Berry ($10), and council members Jean Fletcher and Archie Robinson, plus one vacant seat ($10).

• HOFFMAN — Mayor Tommy Hart ($5), and council members Ricarrdo Anderson, Althea Sloan Cobb, Rory Kevin Jones, Daniel Kelly and Cynthia Northcutt ($5).

• DOBBINS HEIGHTS — Council members Angeline Kendall David and Tyre’ Holloway ($5).

VOTER INFORMATION

Any registered voter who has moved within the county, changed his or her name, decided to change party affiliation or been assigned an E-911 address must register again.

Potential voters in Dobbins Heights must register by 5 p.m. Sept. 15.

Those in Ellerbe, Hamlet, Hoffman and Rockingham must do so by Oct. 13.

Voter registration applications are available at the county elections office, public libraries, Department of Social Services, Employment Security Commission, Mental Health Department and Department of Motor Vehicles.

Dobbins Heights elections will be Oct. 10.

Polls will be open 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. that day.

Absentee ballots will be available Sept. 10. Voters must request mail-in absentee ballots by 5 p.m. Oct. 3. Completed mail-in absentee ballots must be returned by 5 p.m. Oct. 10.

One-stop voting at the North Carolina Cooperative Extension office, 123 Caroline St., Rockingham, will begin Sept. 21 and end at 1 p.m. Oct. 7.

A runoff will be Nov. 7, if needed.

Ellerbe, Hamlet, Hoffman and Rockingham elections will be Nov. 7. Polls will be open 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. that day.
