ROCKINGHAM — Veteran journalist Christine S. Carroll has joined the staff of the Richmond County Daily Journal as a reporter. Her first day was Monday.

Carroll has more than three decades of newspaper reporting and editing experience, in Florida, Indiana, Kansas and South Carolina. She also has taught high school and college English and journalism. She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s in secondary education from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C.

She is moving to Richmond County to rejoin the business after a two-year hiatus and to be close to her eldest daughter’s family, who live in Hamlet.

“I was floored when I saw Christine’s background, which included the Tampa Tribune and The State, in South Carolina,” said William R. Toler, editor of the Daily Journal. “I look forward to the level of journalism she’ll bring to the paper with her extensive experience.”

Carroll will cover the Hamlet City Council, Richmond County Schools and various other topics. Reach her at 910-817-2673.

The Daily Journal, published Tuesday through Saturday, is owned by Civitas Media, whose base is in Davidson, N.C. Civitas owns newspapers in multiple states and the southern North Carolina region, including the Anson Record, Bladen Journal, Laurinburg Exchange and Robesonian.
