PINEHURST — A woman in Moore County was found one week after she went missing.
A Silver Alert was canceled Sunday for 40-year-old Christy Pearson Willis, after she was “located…walking in the Taylortown area,” according to a statement from the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.
Prior to being found, Willis had last been seen Sunday, Sept. 4 shortly before noon in the vicinity of Juniper Lake Road near Murdocksville Road, which is located outside the Pinehurst/Taylortown area of Moore County, according to deputies.
Officials conducted search operations on the ground in the area of Juniper Lake Road and Big Rock Road — while a helicopter from the N.C. Highway Patrol searched from the air — the same day she went missing, the Aberdeen Times reported, with a ground search continuing the following Tuesday morning.
Other agencies involved in the search included: Moore County Public Safety, Foxfire Police Department K-9, Pinehurst Fire Department, Eastwood Fire Department, West End Fire and Rescue, a N.C. Department of Corrections K-9 team and a K-9 team from Chatham County.
Wills has ties to Richmond County and deputies, at the time, believed she could made her way south.
“Sheriff (Neil)Godfrey expresses his sincere appreciation to the community as well as the surrounding law enforcement agencies for the assistance they provided to the the Moore County Sheriff’s Office in locating Christy Pearson Wills,” read a statement released Sunday evening cancelling the alert.
