HAMLET — The Richmond County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Development Authority will host a free workshop to help local small businesses increase their presence online.

The workshop will take place at 9 and 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at the Hamlet Depot, 2 West Main St., with guest speaker Jeanne Eury, NCRMA director of member services.

Eury has made her mark around the state in Raleigh, Wake Forest, Snow Hill, Warrenton and more as a trainer in the “Get Your City Online” program through Google.

Each workshop features a lesson about making sure businesses can be seen in an online map search and have maximized the information they can list for free online. The program aims to bring community members, business owners and civic leaders together to help small businesses succeed on the Web.

“Four out of five consumers use search engines to find local information nearby, yet only 37 percent of businesses have claimed their listing on a search engine,” Soo Young Kim, head of small business engagement at Google, said in a statement. “Small businesses are the engine of local economies, and when they flourish, their communities do as well.”

To sign up or learn more about the program, visit NCRMA’s website or contact Eury at 919-832-0811 or jeannee@ncrma.org.
