CHERAW, S.C. — A Scotland County man was arrested at a nightclub this week after authorities say he tried to hide a bag of cocaine in his mouth.
Bouncers frisked 27-year-old Artemus Antajuan Robinson of 9061 Captain St. outside Laurinburg as he entered Club Chocolate City at 1:45 a.m. Monday, according to Chesterfield County deputies. Sheriff’s Cpl. Brian P. Campbell watched as club security asked Robinson to empty his pockets.
“At this point, I saw Robinson remove a large plastic (bag) from his pocket that was noticeably filled with a white powder substance and place this into his mouth,” Campbell wrote in an arrest report.
The deputy approached Robinson and asked him to hand over the bag. Upon closer inspection, Campbell said the large clear-plastic bag contained “numerous other smaller plastic baggies filled with a white powder substance.”
“I placed Robinson under arrest, and through a self-admission of Robinson, he stated it was all cocaine,” Campbell wrote.
The bag was secured as evidence and the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division will test the substance to confirm it is cocaine, according to the report. An evidence form lists the quantity as 7 grams of the drug with a street value of $1,000.
Robinson was booked into the Chesterfield County Detention Center on a charge of possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
Robinson served a six-month prison sentence in 2008 after his probation was revoked on a Scotland County conviction of possessing Schedule II drugs, according to the N.C. Division of Adult Correction.
He also was convicted of drug paraphernalia possession in December 2011 and disorderly conduct in 2007.
Robinson has pending charges of resisting a public officer, disorderly conduct and two counts of driving while impaired in Scotland County.
Reports show he wasn’t the only Scotland County man to be arrested that morning at the Cheraw club. Shirley Ann McIntyre, 19, and Joakima Larissa Pate, 31, both of Laurinburg, are accused of fighting at Chocolate City.
Two deputies were on foot patrol at the nightspot when they saw the women fighting, according to a sheriff’s report. Club security guards broke up the scuffle as the deputies approached.
McIntyre, of 604 Douglas Road, and Pate, of 716 Hall St., were each arrested on a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct.
Pate served probation on 2007 and 2008 convictions of assault with a deadly weapon, possession, sale and delivery of Schedule II drugs and felony conspiracy in Scotland County.
