There is a misconception about the diet and food addiction connection. Those who are addicted to eating may not be helped by a simple diet. A typical reduced calorie menu will not address the underlying problems of overeating. According to researchers in Europe the problem of eating too much is not solved in a typical manner. Food Addiction and diet must work together but not in the typical way.

The problem with foods

There has been an increase in the numbers of people who suffer from overeating, much of the problem researchers have revealed comes from an unhealthy relationship with foods. The most often sited problem revolves around stress. Stress from relationships, bad marriages and childhood abuses change the hippocampus of the brain. This is the part of the brain responsible for appetite control and it is often affected by abuses.  Food addiction and diet go together but the brain is largely involved.

Dieting does not work for most people, studies show that more that 85% of the time diets fail. This is often due to the failed will power approach to dieting. With will power a person will simply try to force themselves to eat less and this will not work long say researchers. After a time the urge to eat more will come back and it creates a vicious cycle of failure. See here Food addiction diet
