PINEHURST — For the second straight Southeastern Conference golf match, Pinecrest was the team everyone else was chasing.
Pinecrest finished a team score of 303 to beat its closest competitor, Scotland, by 39 shots to capture first at Pinehurst No. 8 Tuesday afternoon.
Richmond was third with a score of 349. Purnell Swett had a 377, followed by Lumberton at 388 and Hoke finished with a 458.
Individually, Pinecrest’s Josh Martin captured medalist honors for the second time this year. Martin fired a 75 to best the field.
Robert Player had the low round for Richmond, carding an 85. Jordan Buie fired an 86 and Brandon Morse had an 87. Matt Howard finished with a 91 and both Jordan McDonald and Logan Paris completed their rounds with a 94. Drew Norton had a 99 and Matt Sellers notched a 115.
In the first match of the season on March 10 at Bayonet at Puppy Creek in Raeford, Pinecrest was first, followed by Scotland and Richmond.
Martin was the individual medalist with a 66.
For Richmond, Howard shot a 78 and Morse carded a 79. Norton finished with an 85, Player fired an 86, while Paris had an 87. Buie shot a 92 and McDonald had a 94.
The next SEC golf match is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Scotch Meadows in Laurinburg. Richmond coach Jason Warren added the teams will attempt to make up last week’s rain out 2 p.m. April 2 back at Pinehurst No. 8.
Tennis match postponed
ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Senior-Purnell Swett Southeastern Conference boys tennis match set for Tuesday was pushed back a day because of the threat of rain in the area.
The teams will now take the courts 4 p.m. today in Pembroke. The Raiders blanked the Rams 9-0 Friday after the first two dates were postponed because of rain.
Richmond is 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the SEC.
Baseball, softball may be moved up
ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Senior baseball and softball teams are scheduled to welcome Lumberton Friday night for a doubleheader.
However, plans may change.
Richmond athletic director Ricky Young said he has had a conversation with Lumberton officials about moving the contests to Thursday night because of a 50 percent chance of rain in the forecast for Friday.
