Odessa Goodwin Williams, 90, met her Savior face to face and joined many loved ones in Heaven on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, while a resident at Hospice Haven in Rockingham, N.C.

Odessa was born Oct. 17, 1923, in Richmond County, a daughter of the late William Miles Goodwin and the late Minnie Lee Barmer Goodwin. She had worked for many years at Aleo Manufacturing and later retired from Richmond Yarns and was a member of The Church of God of Prophecy for more than 40 years.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James E. “Jake” Williams; her daughter, Faye Martin; and her brothers and sisters, Ben, Woodrow, Neal, Carson, Tracy and Jim Goodwin, Lula Williams, Pearl Campbell, Gladys Langley, Bernice Vuncannon and Ollie Mae Williams.

Surviving are her daughters, Hollie Mae Watts of Rockingham and Opal “Bit” Parnell of Salisbury; her son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Ken and Donna Shipley of Pinebluff; her grandchildren, Keith Grooms, who was her devoted caregiver, John T. “Toby” (Darlene) Watts and Tonya (Gregg) Baldwin all of Rockingham, Rhonda (Darrell) McDonald of Cordova, Tammy (Bubba) Kirkley of Hamlet, Kevin Grooms of Charlotte, Kelly (Robert) Luce of Maurepas, La., Jeff Parnell, Jackie (Mike) Molenda, Joan (Scott) Correll and Tracey (Bobby) Wagner all of Salisbury; 20 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will greet friends at 2 p.m. on Monday at The Church of God of Prophecy in East Rockingham and at other times at the home.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. on Monday at The Church of God of Prophecy with the Rev. Steve Gilmer, the Rev. Ken Shipley and the Rev. Fred Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park.
