Richmond County will be offering a new form of online communication to residents with issues or problems they would like to report.
The system is called iWorQ and it is a web-based software used for local governments. It is expected to soon be available to citizens to submit requests on the Richmond County website located at richmondnc.com.
James Armstrong, county planner and director of Geographic Information System services, said that “iWorQ is an online vendor that provides programs for permit tracking, code enforcement tracking as well as a citizen request module.”
The request module will provide a way for computer users to communicate with county officials regarding information and issues such as street signs that are down, dogs running loose, code violations or whatever kind of issue the county may need to address. It is intended solely for non-emergency situations.
On the site, there will be a drop-down menu that will have various requests already preformatted for users’ convenience. This list will grow and modify according to how the module is being used, Armstrong said. There will be a general issue option in the drop down box for problems not listed. The user will then be able to give a description of what they would like to report.
“Once submitted, the citizen will automatically get a code number assigned to them,” Armstrong said. “They will then be able to use that number again to check on the status of the issue and view any responses that have been made.”
With requests that are submitted that aren’t part of the county’s responsibility, the county will then try to direct it to the proper authority, Armstrong said. Those individuals will still be notified of the change by using their code number to check the status of their request.
The site will include polls on various topics concerning the county as well as a frequently asked questions section.
The iWorQ software will also provide easier communications between the county and a contractor seeking a permit. The contractor will be given the ability to log into the website to check the status of the permit.
Also, iWorQ will make the paper work on the staff level a bit easier. Instead of having to fill out new information for the same contractors, staff will be able to the related online database to create new files.
“It is definitely taking the next step to create a more interactive relationship between the county and its people,” Armstrong said.
