Mrs. Nellie Gammage Council, 83, of 326 Peggy Mill Road, Hamlet N.C., formerly of Florida, died on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 27, 1929, in Miami, Fla. She was the daughter of Deo.datus David Gammage and Nellie Hunt Gammage.
She was a homemaker. She graduated from Miami Jackson High School where she was an award winning public speaker. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Pompano Beach, Fla., a talented seamstress, the proverbial wife of noble character and was married to William C. Council, Sr. for 64 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and her late husband, William Carlton Council, Sr., who died May 21, 2013.
Survivors include her daughter, Pamela Council Case and husband, Robert of Hamlet; son, William C. Council, Jr. and wife Maria of Ellerbe; sisters, Joyce Roseborough of Cleveland, Ga. and Chrystal Lebozitz of Nasselle, Wash.; three grandchildren, Lisa Council Case, Natalie Loralie Peters and William C. Council III; and three great-grandchildren, Gavin Lee Peters, Samantha Maria Peters and Adeline Maria Council.
There will be a private family service in memory of Nellie and William C. Council, Sr. at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 at the First Baptist Church in Hamlet with Pastor Randy Bishop officiating.
