Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) was signed into law March 2010, bringing with its passage a complex mix of requirements for employers. Amy Smith and Tim Robinson, certified public accountants with Hughes, Pittman & Gupton will help business owners wade through these complexities and help them make sure they are in compliance with the law’s requirements. They will also address tax and financial impacts of the ACA for employers.
Impact on Businesses
More than 70 percent of small businesses recently surveyed by e-Health responded that they expect compliance with the ACA to be complex enough to warrant outside assistance with interpreting the legislation.
While some business owners and human resource professionals support the overall goals of the ACA, many find themselves with new full-time jobs as they attempt to distill exactly what their obligations and responsibilities are under the new law.
Mandates, penalties and options are words receiving lots of attention, and the legislation presents challenges for many employers.
Just how the ACA affects businesses will depend on several factors, including:
Whether a company currently offers health insurance to its employees
If a company is self-insured or fully-insured
The number of people employed by a company
