Authorities are seeking the whereabouts of a suspect in a bank robbery in Rockingham.

The incident took place shortly before noon on Thursday at Community One Bank on Rockingham Road. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6-feet, 1-inch to 6-feet, 3-inches tall, weighing approximately 200 pounds.

Police said the suspect left the bank wearing a black jacket, black sweatpants and a red hair cover that appears to contain a large amount of dreads, or hair.

The suspect fled from the bank in an unknown direction. The manner of his departure was not shared by authorities to the media.

Rockingham Police Department officers in marked and unmarked cruisers surrounded the bank shortly after the incident took place. The bank is located off Highway Business 74. A bank employee answered the phone shortly after the incident but the employee said she was not authorized to release any information about the incident, including whether or not anyone was injured during the commission of the crime.

The Rockingham Police Department and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. As The Daily Journal went to press at about 8 p.m. authorities did not have anyone in custody.
