Snake causes stir at Rockingham restaurant

In the photo at left, Rockingham Police Officer J.A. Gilbert chases off a rat snake that had crawled into the frame of Emma Jean Broady’s truck at Captain D’s Seafood Friday afternoon.

Broady said she was about to go into the restaurant when she saw the snake slither across the parking lot and onto her truck. William Benoist, a Cordova fire and rescue volunteer, assisted Gilbert in coaxing the serpent out of hiding.

Broady gave small guardian angel figurines to Gilbert and Benoist as a thank-you gift.
