Dorothy Florence Gardner Rankin, 82, of Humble, TX, formerly of Brookwood Dr., Rockingham, died Thursday June 20, 2013.
Dorothy was born February 4, 1931 in Mt. Gilead, NC a daughter of the late Robert and Minnie Luther Gardner. She worked for J.P. Stevens for 17 years, supervised for Hanes Corp. for 24 years and worked for the Richmond County School System for 11 Years . She was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church for 62 years. Dorothy moved to Texas in 2012 after the death of her husband George M. Rankin. Also proceeding her in death was a daughter Patsy Moore Rankin Covington, her brothers; Robert, Bill and Lane Gardner, sisters; Margaret Peterson, Ruby Erwin and Sarah Overcash.
She is survived by her daughter Libby Boyce and husband Bill of Humble, TX, granddaughters Paige Boyce Mayhew and husband Scott of Nederland, TX, Kristin Rankin Boyce of Oklahoma City, OK and a great grandson, Cole Mayhew of Nederland, TX. Also surviving are her sisters; Ellen Thompson of Mt. Gilead, NC and Juanita Cannon of Dallas, TX.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday June 29, 2013 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Rev. Brian Blackwell and Rev. Tim Sieberhagen officiating. Burial will follow in Eastside Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
