Mrs. Gladith Barnes Norton, age 99, of Rockingham and Dillsboro, NC, died Friday, June 28, 2013, at Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville, NC following a brief illness.
Mrs. Norton was born April 16, 1914, in Hewetts, NC. She was the daughter of the late Manuel O. and Ella Mae McGaha Barnes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Broward Norton, one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Babson, and three brothers, Ernest Barnes, Sr., Edgar Barnes, and James Dalton.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Jean Hodges and husband Vernie of Dillsboro, NC (formerly of Rockingham); two granddaughters, Mrs. Lisa Vandermark and husband Charles of Whittier, NC; and Mrs. April Pait and husband John of Climax, NC; five great-grandchildren, Christopher Vandermark of Cullowhee, NC; Sierra Vandermark of Rockingham, NC; Katelyn Vandermark of Whittier, NC; Nathan Pait of Climax, NC; Madison Pait of Climax, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held in the chapel of the mausoleum at Richmond Memorial Park, Rockingham, NC on Monday, July 1 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. with the funeral service following at 3:00 p.m. Reverend Henry Williams and Reverend David Rollins will officiate. Interment will follow in the mausoleum.
