ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Senior junior varsity boys basketball team improved its record to 17-0 on the season and 8-0 in the Southeastern Conference with a 58-41 win over Lumberton Friday at Raider Gymnasium.

The Raiders pulled away from the Pirates in the second quarter, outscoring the visitors 16-9 in the frame.

Tre’vonne Pettigrew led the way for Richmond with a game-high 22 points. Darreal Chambers chipped in with 12, while Greg Patterson added nine.

Friday’s contest was the last home game of the season for the Raiders. Richmond will close out its campaign at Pinecrest Tuesday, followed by a nonconference title at Anson Wednesday before finshing the season at Scotland.

In the junior varsity girls game, Lumberton snapped Richmond’s five-game winning streak with a 44-39 come-from-behind win.

The Pirates trailed 22-16 at halftime before outscoring the Raiders by 12 in the third quarter.

Raven Davis led the way for Lumberton with 15 points, while Tamera Graham knocked in 12. Jessica Steen scored a team-high six points for Richmond, while Breanna Everett and Asiana Douglas each had five.
